The Ae Forest is home of one of the world famous 7stanes mountain bike trails and, centrally situated, is an ideal base to explore all of them from.  And don't forget the Drumlanrig trails at nearby Thornhill.

The three cottages are part of our old stone steading and all are centrally heated by a wood fired boiler to reduce your carbon footprint.  Our 60 acres sustain hedgerows, meadows, riverbanks and much wildlife as well as a fold of Highland cattle and Welsh Mountain ponies.  Pets with well behaved owners are welcome.

The Shepherds Cottage (sleeps 4) living room/dining room, open plan kitchen; double bedroom, second bedroom with twin beds (cot and high chair available on request) and shower room. Logs for the stove, together with linen and towels are provided FoC. The Hay Loft (sleeps 8) Two double and two twin bedrooms are on the ground floor together with a shower room and a w/c..  Up the open oak staircase is the living area which consists of a large sitting room with wood burning stove, an open-plan to a dining/kitchen area and a large bathroom.  There is a television (with freeview) and dvd player. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, dish washer, electric cooker, microwave, etc..  It is has an open and light feel to it and is never cold.  Logs & linen FoC.

Games Hall - floodlit table tennis, trampoline and basketball in the old threshing mill

Laundry - washing machines, sinks and hanging facilities in a heated former tack room

Pressure washer - and hose for cleaning bikes etc.

Food & Drink  - the Bike Shop at Ae does snacks, soups and the occasional meal while the Forester's Pub in the village pulls pints, but no food.  The hotels of Thornhill & Moffat do the traditional fare to a high and generous standard and nouvelle and ethnic cuisines are well represented in Dumfries.

There is a market every week-end on the Whitesands in Dumfries where fruit and vegetables can usually be bought cheaply from cheery people.  If all else fails there is a 24/7 Tesco’s in Dumfries.
