 In its relatively short lifespan the 7stanes has achieved considerable praise from the mountain biking world, achieving global status as simply the worlds best!

Glentress wins Singletrack mag Best UK Trail Centre awardGlentress has just won the Best UK Trail Centre Award at the 2008 Singletrack Mountain Bike Magazine Reader Awards.
We're all well chuffed to win this award here at 7stanes. This is the
4th year running we've won the best trail centre award and the year
before that we won best trail with the Black Route. A big thank you to
everyone who voted and visited Glentress this year. The 7stanes Team will be working
hard to make the trails and facilities even better in 2009.

The 7stanes mountain bike project has helped to boost the economy in
southern Scotland by increasing the annual visitor spend to over £9m in
2007, according to an independent survey published today (Sunday 24
February).

7stanes achieves 'Global Superstar' staus for the second time with an A+ report card form the IMBA. Comments included in the report included - "The Scots have gone positively bonkers!" That was the comment that
best summed up the way we've seen mountain biking progress in Scotland -
the first nation to record back-to-back honours in this
hotly contested category. By "bonkers," we mean they're promoting the
sport on all
fronts, including a nationwide strategic plan that lays the
groundwork for a network of fantastic bike parks on Forestry Commission
lands. The plan covers every aspect of the sport, from trail
construction to management schemes to tourism promotion.

Last year, IMBA's online poll named Scotland the People's Choice. In 2005, the Scots go one better by knocking British Columbia off the Global Superstar pedestal. Scotland features the government-sponsored Seven Stanes Project - riding centres with outstanding trails - and the unmatched scenery and demanding trails of the Scottish Highlands. Mountain bicycling is also growing at a healthy rate in Scotland: the Glentress centre attracted 300,000 visitors last year, according to the Forestry Commission Scotland, which prompted the agency to purchase new land. With mountain bike tourism on the rise and increasing numbers of trails being built, we expect Scotland to stay near the top of the international scorecard for years to come.

7stanes, a unique concept to create seven world class mountain bike trails in the south of Scotland, has ridden away with the supreme award at this year’s Dynamic Place Awards the only awards in Scotland that recognise the country’s leading design, innovation and regeneration projects.
Also the winner in the ‘Connections’ category of the awards, the 7stanes project was started in 2001 and has spearheaded Scotland’s rise to become one of the top five destinations for mountain biking in the world. Riders now come from far and wide, including recent tours from Mexico and the CzechRepublic, and this has led to new businesses being established such as the MB7 7stanes tour operator and the Hub at Glentress used by cyclists and the local community.
On Saturday night (26/11/05) the 7stanes project picked up two awards at the Singletrack magazine readers awards for best trail centre - Glentress (3rd year running), and the new award for best MTB initiative that has done the most to promote mountain biking over the past year.
Couple this with the Dynamic place awards from Scottish Enterprise for Connections and the occassionaly awarded Supreme award, this has made the phase one of the 7stanes project a great sucess for all to enjoy!
MARCH 2005
Scotland's top mountain bikers compete at Glentress Forest in the Scottish Mountain Biking Championships on Sunday 3 April. The race is round one of the Scottish Cross Country Series and include over 200 riders of all ages and categories.

Mountain biking in Newcastleton received a double boost with a new award of 'Excellence' from the Hawick Partnership and the setting up of a local volunteer group to support trailbuilding. The award was in recognition of the effort and achievements for the Holm to Holm mountain bike race held in the village last year, and the newly named 'Woodland Warriors' have been formed to add more spice to the popular 7stanes trails in Newcastleton. The new volunteer trailbuilding team are looking for more hands to help with the work.

Mountain bikers vote Glentress forest, near Peebles, as the best place in Britain to go mountain biking. The Forestry Commission Scotland venue is the top tourist destination in the Borders with over 250,000 visitors each year, mainly because of the excellent biking facilities in the forest. The venue wins the 'Best Trail in UK' category and the Hub Cafe, a business start up with local entrepreneurs and the Commission, also receives an award for 'Best cafe'.

The Helly Hansen Black V trail in the Borders' Glentress Forest voted the United Kingdom's best mountainbiking route by visitors to the sport's top British website, www.singletrackworld.com.The exciting downhill trail near Peebles heads off stiff competition from trails elsewhere in Scotland and some in Wales, which has, like southern Scotland, become one of the world's top mountainbiking destinations.
