Developed from Galloway Cycling Holidays in 2007, Galloway Holidays now offer a
variety of personalised speciality activity holidays in Dumfries and Galloway
region. Our holiday
breaks on offer include:
Cycling Holidays – We continue to arrange cycling
breaks for all standards of cyclists on quiet country sign-posted cycle routes
and roads throughout the region. Start and finish on any date to suit your
schedule.
We use our
local knowledge to arrange cycling-friendly accommodation and offer cycle hire,
luggage transfer and a back up service.
Mountain biking Breaks – Should you wish to indulge in a
bit of mountain biking during your stay in the region, whether on one of the
Dumfries and Galloway 7 Stanes sites or on the Drumlanrig Estate trails, we combine
our holiday arrangement skills and our mountain biking contacts to devise mountain
biking breaks using the easy/moderate standard green/blue trails.
As well as
biker-friendly accommodation, we can arrange bike hire, repairs, skills advice
and trail leader assistance.
We can
combine a road cycling break with mountain biking centre stop-off days or even advise
on other activities for non- bikers.
Other Activities We Arrange.
Walking Breaks – With over 200 miles of coastline,
the Galloway Forest Park and three National Scenic Areas, numerous popular
community and other walks of all types can be found in the region.
We use our
local knowledge to arrange leisure walks, usually up to 6 miles (10 km) often
using existing popular way-marked walks with tea rooms or pubs along the way or
at the end.
We have a large menu of day walks to suit all abilities and along with
arranging your accommodation, we can compile a walking break for whatever
duration you require.
Car Touring – With such a diverse countryside
terrain including hills, glens, river valleys, forests (including two forest
beauty spot drives) and the long coast with many small towns and villages of
individual character, there are plenty of interesting places to visit on a tour
by car in Dumfries and Galloway.
Again we
use our in-depth region-wide knowledge of unique attractions e.g. the Samye
Ling monastery (tea room) or our three ‘Absolutely FAB’ (Food, Art and Books) theme
towns, to provide a personalised service to devise car tour routes according to
suit your interests. We arrange accommodation including at the top four star hotels.
Golf Breaks – Dumfries and Galloway has many 9
and 18 hole golf courses. We have played many! We have a local golfing holiday
partner who arranges golfing breaks around our centrally situated base in
Castle Douglas or we can use our contacts to arrange golfing breaks including
accommodation and transport elsewhere in the region.
Family History - Using our local knowledge, previous family history
research experience, and current researcher contacts we
offer to provide a genealogy or family history service within
Dumfries and Galloway region.The service includes a) research
- by our research partners, and b) a guide service
by ourselves for those visiting our area.We will provide the necessary advice and assistance according to the level of
service you require.
City Breaks and the Natural Scotland Experience - If you would like to combine a
city break with a cycling, walking or
car touring break in Galloway
experiencing typical Scottish countryside, we can a) advise
on travel arrangements and b) arrange accommodation along with
the c) activity arrangements. Our
service is personalised according to the standard of accommodation duration
and type of break you require.
Our base in Castle Douglas is less than 2 hours by car or rail
from both Edinburgh and Glasgow – both accessed by low cost airline
Easyjet. Glasgow Prestwick airport, operated by Ryanair, is only one hour
away.
Family
Breaks
Apart from several
good beaches, there are various other places in our region which should hold the
interest of children and young people. Some of these are an award winning ice
cream farm, family farm parks, outdoor activity centres, one including a 7 acre
maze, family golf centre, David Coulthard racing car museum, all with various
activities on offer. Along with arranging your accommodation, we also advise on
other places to visit and things to do in the area which can combine to make a
both exhilarating and relaxing break in our region.
Other Activities - We offer to use our local knowledge of the region to
liaise with other activity holiday providers to arrange other types of
activity breaks for individuals to groups.
Other activity examples are: sailing and water ski-ing on nearby
Loch Ken; boat trips on the Solway Firth, green bowling; classic car drives;
tank driving; pony trekking and horse riding; photography, painting classes,
all subject to availability.
Our centrally located base in Castle Douglas is less than 10 miles from the
Solway coast with the Galloway Hills and Forest Park around 15
miles away. We can arrange pickup/delivery at Dumfries or Lockerbie
railway stations.
