Scaurbridge House is a charming old rose stone manse set in a tranquil garden near the peaceful rural village of Penpont, Thornhill, on the ancient pilgrim route of the Scottish Kings, 4 miles from the excellent mountain bike trails of Drumlanrig Castle, ancestral home of the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensbury. Scaurbridge House is also ideally placed to visit the 7stanes trails at both Ae Forest and Mabie.
Tastefully decorated and stylishly furnished with care and attention to detail and sleeeping up to 7 people, Elizabeth Ann Hughes warmly welcomes you to this traditional Scottish country home in which the discerning visitor is assured of the best of individual attention.
To prepare her visitors for a hard day on the trails, Elizabeth Ann offers a splendid full cooked Scottish breakfast (such as locally smoked trout with creamy scrambled eggs from very spoilt chickens!) and a wide choice of fruit, porridge, cereals, yoghurt, breads, toast tea/coffee and herb teas. Plus a little sweetmeat- usually hot scones fresh from the oven served with home-made jams and jellies. Special dietary requirements can be catered for - preferably with advance notice.
For those who do not want to travel any further, Elizabeth Ann also offers Dinner. She specializes in delicious home cooking using top quality local produce in season. Galloway beef and lamb, local game, cheeses and honey, fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs from the garden when available.
And if you wish to take some time out to explore the area, the gentle hills and romantic moors, peaceful woodlands and crystal clear rivers and streams make it the perfect area for walking, cycling, bird watching, fishing and other countryside pursuits to be found far from the cacophony of city life.
