Minnigaff Youth Hostel small and friendly hostel has 36 beds and is equipped with excellent self-catering facilities, lounge, drying room and secure cycle storage. Mountain bike Information booklets are provided at the Minnigaff hostel as well as local discounts for hostellers. Outside the hostel runs a popular circular ride to Glentrool. Guests can either start at the hostel or have bikes delivered to the forest and collected when required (Service provided by HDI by arrangement). Our staff are on hand to assist, answer any queries and provide local information. Minnigaff Youth Hostel is open from March to September and is a popular choice with mountain bikers, hillwalkers and wildlife enthusiasts looking to explore the surrounding area. During the autumn and winter periods, the hostel is available for exclusive use through our RentaHostel scheme . Payment allows use of the whole building, beds and all facilities, so whether you’re organising a family gathering, party or looking to get away with your mountain bike friends then our RentaHostel scheme provides the perfect solution. Also popular around the hostel is pony trekking and fishing in the River Cree. The Galloway Forest Park is nearby and the Southern Upland Way is only eight miles from the hostel. Visit the picturesque town of Newton Stewart, enjoy a day trip to the wild goat park and nature trails or just relax and take in the beautiful countryside.
Minnigaff Youth Hostel’s close proximity to the coast has also prompted many coastal and sea kayakers to use the hostel. Guests can be provided with coastal forecasts and synoptic charts for their perusal, with a phone in SAR commitment available, should it be required. The most popular destinations for sea kayaking are the Mull of Galloway and Ailsa Craig.
Just four miles from the hostel you will find an Otter Pond which always proves to be a winner with adults and kids alike. Sightings are usually made in the early morning and later at night. Should you be visiting late at night, access after 11pm can be arranged with the Minnigaff Hostel Manager in advance.
For those keen on cycling the Sustrans No 7 Cycling Route passes the hostel’s front door making Minnigaff Youth Hostel an ideal place to base a trip from or use as a well deserved stop over.
