XC - Cross Country

Pure Speed!XC - Cross Country: From epic adventures to a short blast round your local woods its all XC. Bikes vary in design to suite the terrain and purpose of the XC discipline, from light weight single speed bikes to “Enduro” full suspension bikes. The sport has so many looks that it can be a daunting task choosing your first bike, here is a quick guide to cross country bikes.

Single Speed: usually built with minimal weight in mind, skinny tyres, light wheels, disc or rim brakes, suspension forks or full rigid.

Ideal use: Racing, trail riding in less extreme environments.

Hard Tail: A normal double triangle design, lightweight build (unless freeride/jump bike) a selection of gears and usually front suspension.
Ideal use: General XC in a wide variety of terrain.

Full Suspension: A wide multitude of frame shapes and suspension layout. XC bikes typically having less travel (80-120mm) than Enduro bikes (120-170mm).
Ideal use: Enduro bikes are built for all day trail rides in back country environments but are equally at home on a purpose built trail.
